A hungry child cannot learn. On feeding days, classrooms and school yards in Jimma turn into dining halls: injera and stew, bread and bottled water, balloons on the desks and a great deal of noise.
Meals are prepared by volunteers and mothers from the community, with the school providing space and teachers helping to organise the children. For many pupils it is the most complete meal of the week.
Feeding days sit inside our wider health and nutrition work — emergency food support for households affected by HIV, hygiene and nutrition education, and referrals to health services through the Jimma Town Health Office.
